  • Personality
Intelligent, pessimistic, dishonest, cruel. There's nothing Mort loves more than to deceive others. He's a murderer without remorse, unable to feel sympathy. What he can, though, is to pretend. Mort puts on a mask, makes you believe that he is indeed who he claims to be and voilá! You're under his spell and you won't realise it until it's too late.
  • Physical Appearance
His fur is all black and his eyes are of a very dark blue colour, nearly black - he has aniridia, making it look like as if he has two huge pupils and no irises.
Mort looks rather slender and is often considered as handsome, something he finds very flattering as well as amusing, yet his slender frame is the product of a general disinterest in food, sometimes leading his appearance to look almost sickly.
  • History
Mort was originally born in New York, at which time he was named "Jack". He was born into a large litter and all of his siblings were healthy, except for him. Because of his aniridia the breeder was contemplating whether to kill the whelp off or not, but Mort was saved by a family with two young children. They asked how much the breeder would pay for him and they were surprised by the low price – the breeder apparently thought of the little puppy as a disgrace.

The parents were easily persuaded by the children and bought the pup that they would come to call Jack. They'd been fully informed of his "complications" and that he may require treatment, but they did not worry about it. Soon enough they noticed how Jack occasionally bumped into things and they thought of getting treatment for their new family member... but it was too expensive for them. They needed their money for the kids' futures. They couldn't waste money on some mutt that they'd bought cheaply. They decided it was easier to let him out on the streets and leave him to his destiny.

Mort was soon found by a drunkard who he lived with for a while, constantly abused. He missed the children and their playfulness, though he did not miss the parents. It was then that the seed of his hate for them, as well as the entire human race, was planted. Eventually, near the age of two, he escaped the man and was ready to live a life on the streets, but it didn't take long before he was caught and placed into yet another home.

This time it seemed like he'd come to the right place, but it would soon prove to be wrong. His new owner, a man in his early forties, was a sailor and a traveller. For three years they travelled to many different countries together. One day they went to Russia, the man's home country, where the man died of heart failure. His family didn't want the dog and threw him out on the streets, and so he was on his own yet again, angry at humans who would only treat him unfairly. He eventually managed to remove his collar and therefore also his old name tag and took on a new name, "Mort", an old word meaning "Death". It would become a fitting name for his whole persona.

He continued to travel, although now alone, in Russia, seeing only bad things in his surroundings. The world was a wicked place to him, so why shouldn't he be wicked also? When he was tired of seeing Russia he decided it was time to see more of the world. He sneaked onto a boat heading for Japan; a country he'd never been to before. Surely there would be some new souls to torture there.
